DIY: Flower Crown

I’m on a roll. DIY after DIY! Well, making a floral head wreath is part of my 2013 bucket list, and I feel like now is the time to do it in time for my beach getaway (and hopefully Wanderland music festival). There are loads of DIY guides over the Internet, so I didn’t have to do a lot of thinking. LOL. What I love about flower crowns is that wearing it instantly gives you a dainty, enchanted character that only equally confident and stylish girls can pull off. I’m assuming I’m one of them, haha!

Things you need:

  • A bunch of plastic flowers
  • Floral tape
  • Floral wire
  • Scissors

First, shape the floral wire around your head, circling it twice for a sturdier crown.

Cover the floral wire with the floral tape entirely.

You’ll notice that it’s a lot more secure and stronger now. Your head is already protected from all the wire ends sticking out.

Pick out the flowers that you want to incorporate in your crown. It’s nice to have a bit of the leaves or ferns, too, for a more natural effect.

Cut the lumpy connecting ends, if any, so it won’t bulge out unglamorously from the crown.

You may arrange the flowers loosely around the wire so you’d initially know how it’ll look like and so you’d save time designing instead of doing it freely one by one.

Start taping the parts on the wire. Begin taping from a centimeter or so down to the end for a secure fit.

Tape the center designs first down to the sides so you won’t have a hard time when parts overlap. You may cover only half of the wire with flowers or you may work all around it. I only did half so it’s not overpowering.

You’re done! Here’s how mine looks like. Not bad for the first try, but I want a smaller and completely bloomed flowers next time, like daisies.

Try it on, wear it loosely with a slightly unkempt or messy hair, and work it like a fairy! Excuse my face and my bad hair. LOL. I can’t wait to wear this with my bikini under the sun! This project is really fun. It’s a must try.

DIY: Ombre Shorts

I was following an online shop over at Instagram and was surprised that they sell ombre shorts at a whopping PhP950, claiming that “they can try and copy but never duplicate,” plus hashtagging #onlythebest. I smirked.   This shop is challenging me for a DIY experiment. In my head was “of course I can. Yours is not the best in the world.”

I hurriedly googled “DIY ombre shorts” and found a bunch of blogs with similar projects. And I tell you, they have amazing results, even way better than that of the high-and-mighty shop. So I pulled my yellow shorts ready for a chic makeover.

Things you need:

  • Shorts
  • Bleach
  • Fabric Dye
  • Boiling Water
  • Salt

image

Firstly, I cut my shorts to a skimpier length (I formerly folded the pair above at the hem) and pulled the loose thread for a distressed look. Do not put much effort distressing, however, because the washing machine will do the job afterwards.

image

Dip the bottom part of the shorts in two parts bleach, one part water. Leave it overnight. I used a shallow container for this. If you happen to use a bucket, you can always clip the shorts in place. The picture above shows how the shorts look like when it’s bleached. There’s not much difference because the denim is already light, so I maybe should have skipped this part. Wash the shorts then hang or tumble dry until damp, not completely dry. Tip: To remove the nasty smell of bleach in your hands, rub them against a stainless steel spoon in running water.

image

I chose to fuse yellow with orange for a sunburst effect. I picked it to be safe, so I’d have a lesser chance of looking tacky because these colors complement each other. Dissolve the dye first in boiling water. Put a tablespoon of salt to aid in coloring the fabric. Dip the bleached part of the shorts in the mixture then wait for five minutes. Wash it until no hint of color can be seen in the water. Let it dry, and voila! Your very own ombre shorts!

image

Here’s how mine looks like. I wanted to decorate it with studs, but I still need to order some.

image

This is how it looks like when worn. I’m so happy with the result! I only spent PhP6 for the dye, so I saved PhP944, plus the shipping fee. Gotta love DIY.

Take Me to the Beach

El Nido has engrossed the mind of this beach babe for quite some time now. You know how kids get all giddy from the mere thought of Disneyland? That’s exactly how I’m feeling. It’s overwhelming and crazy and euphoric. Being the personal style blogger that I turned out to be, of course I can’t miss putting together sets of ensembles from my own closet for one simple and obvious reason: so I’d look good on pictures. LOL. Girls make it a point that what they wore last summer won’t be repeated because photos of last year can tell. We don’t like that, do we? So for Summer 2013, here are the looks that I will strut in the paradise that is El Nido, Palawan.

Judging from my Polyvore summer sets, I’m all for high-waisted everything because (1) it is timeless, and (2) if my flat belly workout fails, it will hide my ugly muffin top. :) This number is what I’ll wear during the lagoon tour. Oh my, just saying that makes my heart swell from excitement.

The best part is taking off the shirt in such a sexy way so my boyfriend wouldn’t look at anyone or anything else but me. Hahaha! The wayfarer sunnies turn the bikini and shorts combo from ordinary to classic chic. Did you know that I don’t take off my shorts when I swim? I’m afraid the waves might doff my bikini bottom just like what it did with my bikini top a long time ago, which left me panicking and unglamorous.

Beach babe Audrey Hepburn, anyone? I loooove this outfit. The look is clean and sweet and subtly sexy. This is something I would wear on a casual walk by the beach with a good book and my man (of course). He said he will prepare me a candlelit dinner. Yihee! But I think I should wear a dress by then.

I can’t believe I bought another swimsuit. Maybe I should make it as a collection though I only have seven pairs as of now. I wanted to put this together with a maxi skirt, but I can’t find one that I like.

I cut and distressed my purple shorts yesterday. I’m also planning to do the same thing with the yellow one, which I will turn into an ombre with orange dye, if the purple bottom would look great after going through the laundry. Also, a flower crown would make a nice addition to these outfits for a touch of boho. Ah! I’m thrilled as ever!

BDJ Box Giveaway Winner

I’m actually surprised that only a few people joined this giveaway ‘cause getting a free BDJ Box is an awesome deal. There are only two reasons why it happened: (1) I did not promote it enough; and/or (2) No one really reads my blog. LOL. But I’m still happy that I finally hosted this, at least I can tick one off of my bucket list. Anyway, for those who can’t submit their comments (hence cannot enter the giveaway), I’m sorry, but I don’t know how to fix it. Thanks for the interest, nonetheless.

Without further ado (I hate that phrase but used it anyway), the winner of a month’s subscription of BDJ Box is … Emz Busayong! I’m so happy you won! You promoted the giveaway more than anyone else, sometimes to my embarrassment hahaha! I’ll send you an e-mail to get your details.

This giveaway is drawn via random.org.

Thank you so much for joining everyone! For those who didn’t, you just missed a great treat. Haha! All my love.

I used to borrow sunnies from friends as it was not my thing to wear one. Before, I don’t know the comfort and the importance of protecting your eyes from the sun. Now that my El Nido getaway is all I can think of apparently, my goal is to get as much design that I can, especially those on my Polyvore sets. I can’t believe I have four. I tried some round glasses but I look all too weird. These would do for now.

Summer Set

I can’t wait for end of May to come so I can finally indulge myself in paradise tranquility. I am constantly thinking of what to wear, looking up some summer 2013 collections over the Web. I decided to revere high-waisted everything this year, from shorts, skater skirts, and maxi skirts. So here’s my Polyvore summer set that I created for some inspiration.

Coachella 2013 Best Dressed

The music festival at Palm Springs just ended which left some of us who were left at home drooling over those overflowing Instagram photos of Coachella. We wish we were there, right? Maybe some almost forgot that it is a music festival because Coachella turned out to be “Indio Fashion Week,” some might say. Which is not a bad thing actually.

Here are some of my outfit favorites:

image

Bella Thorne

I love the flower wreath, the crochet top, and the high-waist shorts. Something you would wear comfortably under the scorching heat.

image

Ana Beatriz Barros

That For Love & Lemons maxi skirt (and the flat tummy, too) is to die for. I love that she’s covered and not covered at the same time. Key body parts peeking out ingeniously. This is an automatic favorite the moment I saw this number.

image

Sophia Bush

This is the classy, not the trashy, way to bare some skin at the desert. The pattern pants look fresh and airy, and the bralet and bag matched it perfectly (all blue, anyone?).

image

Kate Bosworth

THIS! This is how you do it, ladies. I’m obsessed with this crisp eyelet shorts suit! It’s minimal, but it sure did outshone everybody. And the boots and the bag, oh my! Yes! Appropriate and stylish.

And for my summer look inspiration, meet the beautiful Alessandra Ambrosio. All her outfits were spot on. I want to steal them from her seriously. I’ll try to copy these ensembles for the beach, minus the boots of course. She’s my Coachella goddess.

Happy Hatch Day, Mademoiselle Diaries!

image

It’s a special day today because April 15, 2013, marks Mademoiselle Diaries’ second year! Yay! What was supposed to be a personal blog turned out to be a personal style blog, peppered with OOTDs and Lookbook style inspirations. The blog, as I always say, has been keeping my sanity; dealing with my rants and frustrations; holding my wishes and dreams, material and otherwise; preserving memories; and, most importantly, coping with my unforgivable vanity.  I can’t count the times when I tried to shut this whole thing down, but I’m glad I didn’t.  This blog taught me that I should write because people believe that I can, that I should cherish the gift, that I should continue learning and improving, that some people still read and want to know what I have to say somewhere out there, that this is for personal growth that I can’t get anywhere else, that I should not try to please everybody all the time, that I am blessed in many aspects, and that complete strangers could appreciate what this whole blog is all about more than your friends could.

For sticking with me, I’m very grateful, and that deserves a treat. In celebration of my blog’s second anniversary, I’m giving away a BDJ Box to one lucky reader! For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, BDJ Box is a collection of five to six beauty product samples delivered monthly. Each box has a theme, and its contents are always secret, so it’s a surprise every time! Sweet!

Mademoiselle Diaries is turning two on April 15! Yay! After numerous quitting attempts, the blog is still up and running, which I’m very thankful for. It’s like a boyfriend that I can’t seem to break up with. Maybe it’s true love. On that note, I’m cooking something for you, guys. I finally am hosting a giveaway! ;) Clothing, bags, or shoes would have been an awesome treat, but since I’m not sponsored by any shop (yet ;)), for the convenience of everyone, I’m giving away a beauty loot. I’ll officially announce the prize and mechanics on Monday. Sounds exciting? Celebrate with me and win! Stay tuned. :)

Today’s Ensemble

image

image

Loose

  • Top//Thrifted
  • Blazer//Thrifted
  • Skirt//Pretty in Pink
  • Envelope Bag//Divisoria
  • Shoes//Parisian

Oddly enough, I find wearing sleeveless tops uncomfortable when it’s hot simply because my sweat goes nowhere but trickle down, which is gross. I’d rather be in a damp T-shirt, I guess, which absorbs all that I excrete.

If there’s one style that I’m not, it probably is sporty. I don’t have nothing against the style, but it’s just not me. However, sans the blazer, I find this look a bit sporty. Maybe it’s the cut of both the top and the skirt that make me say so. With this ensemble, perhaps I’d look cooler with a cap.

I’m currently obsessed with my El Nido trip. I already listed my itinerary, the things to buy, the things to pack, and some of what to wear. I’m travelling end of May, and I’m this kind of thrilled. Imagine when it’s only days before the flight. I’d sure be ecstatic.
